After Bush showered Brownie with high marks and lavish praise, Brownie resigned under popular protest of his incompetence... but then FEMA refused to let Brownie off the payroll. (yes, that's right.)   Today, Bush nominated Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court. By many accounts Harriet is a real "brownie". The problem is, the SC job is a lifetime appointment. As much as I dislike Bush, I thought he was smarter then this. Looking at her background Miers is certainly more qualified for being on the Supreme Court then Brown was heading FEMA. But that isn’t really saying much. Still it appears her main qualification is that she was Bush’s personal attorney and that smells of cronyism. Normally it wouldn’t be much of a problem, but less then a month after the Brown debacle, even the appearance of cronyism is something I’d thought Bush would’ve been smart to avoid. Cronyism is going to be the red meat to all of his and her opponents. It was the first thing everyone thought of when her name was announced and it is going to overshadow every debate about her. Bush and his handlers fumbled bad on this on and is just further proof of how out of touch with reality they really are. ? Her position implies ability, not her gender.   So, removing your attempt to heap ability on the candidate based on her gender, you get:   "Miers heads her Dallas law firm, and is the president of the Dallas Bar Association and the president of the state bar of Texas."   Hardly the qualifications for the SCOTUS, IMO. Her only distinction is that she is closely tied to Bush. Just that Bush was very stupid to appoint her so close to the Browie incident and it appears that her BEST claim to getting the nod is her close relation with Bush. Everyone (both on the left and right) will bring that up when they question her abilities. ?
