President Bush, preparing for a meeting next week of leaders of major industrialized countries, announced major new aid initiatives for Africa today aimed at sharply lowering malaria deaths and increasing the education and legal rights of women.
A major element of this increase would be the ambitious expansion of antimalarial efforts into several more countries, eventually doubling the yearly $230 million the United States now spends on this effort. "In the overwhelming majority of cases," he said, "the victims are less than 5 years old, their lives suddenly ended by nothing more than a mosquito bite."
If you multiply 230 million by about 1,000... you would have approximately the cost of the first part of the Iraqi war. This 230 million is a good investment. It will provide a great ROI, create good will, prevent terrorism and all that is on top of... save and improve lives.
