WHAT TO BRING: Appripriate shoes and some water. We will bring granola bars and FREE Planned Parenthood t-shirts as we will have some great photo opportunities at the top of the mountain! WHY: Sign a letter to your US Representative while you sit on the top of the mountain asking him/her to support US funding for international family planning and to protect the environment!
DIRECTIONS TO TIGER MOUNTAIN: Driving Directions: From Seattle take I-90 to exit 20 and make a right and then another right. You will no doubt see a line of cars. Follow the dirt road and the row of cars until you get to the main parking lot. We will meet at the front of the parking lot. BACKGROUND: We know that our health and the health of the planet are inseparable.
As we pollute our rivers, streams and other precious ecosystems, toxins end up in our body which have been linked to a variety of reproductive health problems such as infertility, cervical cancer and contaminated breast millk. And we know that without access to family planning, our world's population will continue to explode and put increasing pressure on the earth.
Sadly, the Bush Administration and Congress are not doing enough to support programs throughout the world which give people the ability to plan and space pregnancies. And we need to do more here in the United States to curb consumption and recognize the impact our actions have throughout the world.
Planned Parenthood recognizes these connections. That's why in addition to our public advocacy efforts, we have an internal employee driven program called Choices for Earth which seeks to promote environmentally responsible policies and practices at Planned Parenthood of Western Washington. Ironically, health care providers are among the biggest polluters of the environment. Planned Parenthood is setting an example by being a steward of the environment as a means to safeguard women's reproductive health.
