Iceland already runs hydrogen vehicles on their roads. They opened world's first hydrogen filling station (run by Shell) in Reykjavik in April 2003.
Since there is no carbon in the H2 (hydrogen) used as fuel, there is no carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, or unburned hydrocarbons or particulate in the exhaust. The only emission is water or steam (water vapor).
Why doesn't America have an ambitious plan? Why doesn't America take a leadership role in developing and deploying alternative fuel?
Why doesn't part of America's vast defense budget go toward protecting the country from our dependence on foreign oil? Why does America spend 10 billion dollars a year on "missile defense" research and a small fraction of that on alternative fuel research?
911 showed us what a terrorist attack can do to our emotions. The oil embargo of the 1970's showed us that oil can bring the entire American economy to its knees. What do you think is the greater risk to America - a missle attack or disruption to our oil supply?
